America Football Club (RJ)America Football Club (Rio de Janeiro) – moving to official name with disambiguator spelt in full Hack (talk) 11:44, 29 December 2016 (UTC) --Relisting.MRD2014 (talkcontribs) 16:43, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Very interesting. It seems that these clubs officially use a similar disambiguation technique to Wikipedia, but with not quite the same conventions. So what looks like a parenthetical disambiguation is actually, from our point of view, instead a common name. Andrewa (talk) 11:25, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The link provided above for "official site" is dead, but the current official site seems to be at http://www.americario.com.br/... clearly this web address uses "rio" as the disambiguator, meaning that the "RJ" is not uniformly applied. Far better and more WP:RECOGNIZABLE for us to spell out the name of the city, then anyone who looks will know what this is.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:35, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. On reflection, I don't think we can allow the current article name. To our readers, this looks like the Wikipedia parenthetical disambiguation convention, which it is not. As has been pointed out, we would not use the RJ disambiguator, as it is unrecognisable. All very confusing to the reader. It may be that we need to tweak WP:AT and/or WP:DAB to cover such cases, but meantime, the action with this article is clear (under WP:IAR if necessary): We use the more concise but ambiguous common name, and disambiguate it according to our own conventions, as proposed. This should be a precedent for other clubs at present (seemingly) disambiguated (RJ). Their official names do not take precedence over our naming policy.
